The Website Building Process

Building your website

Planning the website

At the very beginning, the first question we ask is "What do you want your website to achieve?". This will be our main focus for the website and will be incorporated at each and every stage.

We then need to look at who your target audience is and plan accordingly so we can maximise the impact of the website on them. It is at this stage that we need to find out what people are looking for in the search engines and build the website around these keyword phrases.

Alternatively, you may just want your website to be a promotional tool for internal customers, or use it as a an online application for your staff.

Designing the website

We design all our websites right from scratch and never, ever, use templates. Websites need to be designed with the target industry in mind and need to contain your existing branding to enhance familiarity. If you don't have corporate branding, we can create this for you.

We can incorporate your ideas into the design - in fact a percentage of the websites we have built have been based on the initial ideas of the website owners!

Building the website

Once the design, sitemap, content and functionality has been decided for each page, we begin the build:

There are four parts to a website. The HTML (hyper text markup language) which is the structure of the page. CSS (cascading style sheets) which is the presentation of the page, Javascript which is the interactivity of the web page and the programming (such as PHP, ASP, Coldfusion etc) which is the functionality of the pages.

We ensure that the web page loads fast, the images are the right size and the text is semantically correct by using the correct HTML tags for each part of the content.

We spilt up the design and piece it together so that it can be viewed correctly on differing browsers. We also ensure that the code is accessible to all by ensuring that we follow guidelines from W3C.

Each page is constructed to enable search engines to find the relevant text that will help your website ranking in the search engines.

When the site is complete we test its download speed is the quickest possible. Analysis on how the search engine sees the site is completed and, if necessary, the website is amended to get the best performance.

Lastly, we check the site again, and again!
